Great Party Environment. My daughter just turned 16. We were having a really hard time finding the perfect location for her age group. This place turned out to be it! Not too small…not too big. This age group just wants lots of loud fist pumping music and a cool place to hang out and that is exactly what they got. The setting was perfect. We had special “mocktails“, balloons, beach balls in the air and it was very festive and not over the top. They staff there was very anxious to plan special themes for us. They are all very friendly and helpful. This business was started by a couple of moms so I totally support their vision. The party that ended just before ours started was a bachelorette party with a belly dancer so you can get very creative at this place. I highly recommend it.

Joint Birthday Party 13th and 14th. My daughter and her friend celebrated their 13th and 14th birthday party here. The setting was very cool yet safe. They had 35 of their friends for the VIP dance party. They danced the night away. The staff was friendly and accomodating as needed. The kids had a blast! Some said it was the BEST party ever! Sharing the party cut the cost, otherwise a bit pricey. However, one of the easiest parties I’ve ever hosted and no clean up. It is a great concept!

REAL Hip Hop Classes in Charlotte NC – FunkyTown Parties

What is REAL Hip Hop?? The hip hop culture is a form of musical, physical and artistic expression.  It has 4 main pillars: MCing, DJ-ing, breaking and graffiti writing.  Dance is a huge part of the hip hop culture, the foundation includes techniques of steppin’, poppin, toprock, gliding, music-video-style, and some simple floor work.  The foundation of hip hop dance is breakdancing or B-boying.  Breakdancing involves a frenetic, but incredibly controlled, style of dancing that highlights strength and dynamic movement of the body, matching the beats laid out by DJs or beatboxers. Often breakdancing is done in a battle format, with various competitors facing off by showing their skills and trying to one-up each other.

Most dance studios teach “street jazz” and call it hip hop or breakdancing, while having little to no knowledge of the history or foundation of true hip hop culture. Be selective on where you take your hip hop and breakdancing classes you wouldn’t take your ballet classes from someone with no knowledge of the steps or skill, and so your ‘hip hop’ and ‘breakdance’ classes should be the same! Halloween Monster Truck Workshop

Do your kids have a teacher workday this Friday??? If so, sign up your little pumpkins and get a few hours of “Me Time” while they have a blast at a super cool workshop held at FunkyTown Parties this Friday October 28th 2011 from 9:30 – 12pm.

Just in time for Halloween, FunkyTown’s cool Halloween Monster Truck workshop is sponsored by Lowes Home Improvements. Your kids will love building this Halloween Monster Machine and creating lots of funny monster combinations afterwards!  Giving your child the opportunity to say, “I built it!”, is a great way to help build confidence!  This “Monster” truck includes a flashing light and glow in the dark stickers!

After the building is done kids will have a chance to celebrate in a funky way plus we will play games, dance and have a Monster Truck Jam.  Please bring snack and drink (no nuts please) cost is $25 per child. Space is limited.

6 Steps for a Graffiti Party

This Party is great for kids and adults!

Step One
Think Soho loft space. Get rid of excess furniture, breakables and stainables. Throw white sheets over your furniture, rest blank canvases on easels (raid toy stores for inexpensive ones), and lay drop cloths on the floor to catch any drips (art supply stores carry this kind of stuff).

Step Two
Space 2 step ladders about 6 feet apart and rest planks across the steps to create the snack or bar area. New tin paint cans from the hardware store make great ice buckets and containers for food, drinks and supplies.

Step Three
Line a wall of the party area with matte black paper, sold by the roll, for guests to tag up with chalk. Make sure the paper isn’t glossy, because the chalk won’t stick if it is.

Step Four
Attach big sheets of plain white paper or muslin (found at art stores) to another wall for the paint and markers.

Step Five
Throw up outlines of letters and images for your taggers to fill in. It will help them overcome their fear of creativeness.

Step Six
If your guests want to tag it and take it, bust out the old jeans, T-shirts, thrift store purses, and athletic shoes. Have glittery and puffy fabric paints, paint pens and markers available (found at craft supply stores).

Awesome Hockey Wii Party

My son just turned 9 and wanted a Wii Hockey party. We chose Funkytown because of their awesome, large TV’s and set up. The kids had a blast!!! First they played hockey on the side of the building which was large enough for more than 20 kids. Then they played Wii games inside while the staff catered to all their needs. Snacks and drinks were included in the price and we didn’t have to do a thing. This really SAVED us from spending lots of energy and clean up time. (Can you imagine cleaning the house after having 20 boys in it?) Thanks Funkytown and we’ll see you next year!
