STREET DANCE SCHOOL IN CHARLOTTE NC – FunkyTown Parties

12 01 2013

Does your kids want to take a hip hop class? FunkyTown Parties is the only urban street dance school in North Carolina. We specialize in the coolest form of dance, Hip Hop and Break Dancing. We offer boys only and girls only classes. Before you decide which school will be best for your child there is something you should know, most dance studios teach “street jazz” and call it hip hop or breakdancing, while having little to no knowledge of the history or foundation of true hip hop culture. Be selective on where you take your hip hop and breakdancing classes you wouldn’t take your ballet classes from someone with no knowledge of the steps or skill, and so your ‘hip hop’ and ‘breakdance’ classes should be the same!

REAL Hip Hop Classes in Charlotte NC – FunkyTown Parties

What is REAL Hip Hop?? The hip hop culture is a form of musical, physical and artistic expression.  It has 4 main pillars: MCing, DJ-ing, breaking and graffiti writing.  Dance is a huge part of the hip hop culture, the foundation includes techniques of steppin’, poppin, toprock, gliding, music-video-style, and some simple floor work.  The foundation of hip hop dance is breakdancing or B-boying.  Breakdancing involves a frenetic, but incredibly controlled, style of dancing that highlights strength and dynamic movement of the body, matching the beats laid out by DJs or beatboxers. Often breakdancing is done in a battle format, with various competitors facing off by showing their skills and trying to one-up each other.

Most dance studios teach “street jazz” and call it hip hop or breakdancing, while having little to no knowledge of the history or foundation of true hip hop culture. Be selective on where you take your hip hop and breakdancing classes you wouldn’t take your ballet classes from someone with no knowledge of the steps or skill, and so your ‘hip hop’ and ‘breakdance’ classes should be the same! And if your kids are looking for a fun, safe, and exciting environment to learn, then FunkyTown is the place for them!! 3 Types of Flash Mobs

21 10 2011

By Party Chick

A flash mob is when a group of people, usually out of nowhere, start performing predetermined actions. This is sometimes accompanied with music. This is often done to either amuse OR to confuse the people around them. In fact, I’ve done so before! It was to the song “Move Your Body” song by Beyonce for a fundraising 5K Race for middle school sports exactly a 2 weeks ago(all the dancers knew ahead of time, it was the audience who did not). There are more than just dancing flash mobs, here are my top 3 favorite videos. Enjoy!!

1. Dancing Flash Mob

T- Mobile Flash Mob – Watch the moment Liverpool Street Station danced to create this special T-Mobile Advert.

2. Singing Flash Mob

On Nov.13 2010 unsuspecting shoppers got a big surprise while enjoying their lunch. Over 100 participants in this awesome Christmas Flash Mob. This is a must see!

3. Frozen Flash Mob

Freeze-ins,” or the choreographed stunts by hundreds of amateur improv participants simultaneously freezing in a public space at a pre-arranged time, are springing up around the globe. On a cold Saturday in New York City, the world’s largest train station came to a sudden halt. Over 200 Improv Everywhere Agents froze in place at the exact same second for five minutes in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station. Over 500,000 people rush through Grand Central every day, but today, things slowed down just a bit as commuters and tourists alike stopped to notice what was happening around them. Enjoy this video!
