Planning a Sweet 16 parties in Charlotte can be tough, but here is a great idea to add to you party.  Let’s face it: The old standards – soda, root beer, and water with a twist of lime – are boring. On the other hand, mocktails, also known as mixed non-alcoholic beverages, offer a more exciting alternative to the old virgin reliables, and can provide plenty of yummy advantages. Celebrating your birthday with a mix your own mocktail bar adds a great element of fun to parties, especially parties with teens.

I recommend that you stock your “bar” with lots of ice, fruit juices, sparkling water, grenadine, sparkling cider and other mixer ingredients.  Add garnishes such as maraschino cherries, lemon twists, orange slices and lime wedges. Provide plenty of glasses, a martini shaker and a jigger to measure ounces.  It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or formal – just fun!

Print your favorite mocktail recipes on cards and place them at the bar for your guests to use. Below are some of my favorite mocktail recipes.

Yellow Bird

1 oz each OJ, pineapple, grapefruit

2 oz sprite

Add ice

Float grenadine on top and let it dribble for effect

Baby Bellini

2 oz peach nectar

Chilled sparkling cider

Pour nectar into champagne flute. Slowly add sparkling cider.

Cinderella

1 oz lemon juice

1 oz OJ

1 oz pineapple juice

2 oz ginger ale

Dash of grenadine

Pour juices into cocktail shaker with ice.  Strain into a glass and add ginger ale and grenadine.

FunkyTown Parties includes a mocktail bar with every Sweet 16 party. For more information on booking your Sweet 16 party at FunkyTown contact us at www.funkytownparties.com

FunkyTown Parties – Joint Birthday Parties in Charlotte

18 01 2012

More parents are starting to have joint birthday parties with other families for their children. This growing trend is the reverse of the “Let’s Outdo the Jones” mentality of a few years ago.

If you are looking to simplify your child’s birthday party while you save on costs and reducing the workload plus you can divide the tasks between the families then, a joint birthday party is something to consider. This is when two or more children whose birthdays are near each other have their party together, it can be friends or siblings. Typically joint birthday parties are held with classmates or other children who have the same friends. This type of party works well for children because you often invite the whole class to birthday parties at this age.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind about hosting a joint party with another family.

  1. Make sure the birthday kids like each other and get along. They do not need to be best friends, but should enjoy each other’s company.
  2. Realize that when you host a joint birthday party with another family you will be giving up some control over the party.
  3. When having a sibling joint party, keep in mind kids often have a tendency to be jealous of their siblings than a friend, make sure that both kids are in agreement with a joint birthday party.
  4. When planning the party together sit down with the other family and discuss the details. One of the most important topics to discuss is the budget. Especially for specific items, such as invitations, decorations and cake. One family’s idea of a typical birthday cake might be to go to a specialty bakery and spend $150 on a cake while another family gets birthday cakes from the grocery store.
  5. The next detail to discuss is the venue and theme for the party. Make sure that joint parties be held at a location that is desired by both kids. Make sure both kids agree and are excited about the theme for the party.
  6. Talk openly with the other family about the best way to handle presents. If the party is for two children, then it is fine for the guests to give presents to both children. However, if a guest would not have attended one of the child’s parties, then they do not need to bring a gift for the child they do not know.

I highly recommend having joint birthday parties. It is a wonderful way to celebrate your child’s birthday while watching your budget. FunkyTown Parties is a great place for joint birthday parties, in fact we actually do them very often and we welcome them. Contact us today at www.funkytownparties.com and book a joint birthday party for your child.
